The Lack of Genuine Comics
Ever watch the comedy network? If you have you've probably seen the same old generic comedy from the same old generic comics.
There seems to be a lack of genuine comedians on T.V. lately. Gone are the days of George Carlin and his brilliant mind for the word play of comedy. Gone are days of Richard Pryor making fun of a life of brutality and poverty. No, now we are left with people like Dane Cook who are a herpie on the comedy scene. The majority of comics now a days play it safe with there same old safe sets and sticking to topics that every other comedian uses for material.
Comics like Chris Rock, Denis Leary, Patrice O'neal, Jason Rouse and Mikey Henley are of a dying breed in the world of comedy. These are comics who can take any subject and turn it into genuine comedy. People who push the envelope of taboos and kick open the doors of perseption. These same comics can come up with material from personal experiences that were not so funny at the time and allow us to laugh along with them aswell as at them. They dont censor themselves, which is a big part of the problem with the majority of comics today, that and the lack of personal experiences beyond the normal of there everyday life.
I do agree that there is a place for clean light comedy....its called public school. however in the world of comedy, people are tired of hearing the same generic sets done by the same generic comics. The world loves and wants to laugh, we just want genuine laughter.
I as a comic appreciate and respect the comedians who are willing to go into taboo topics and tell stories of a dark nature and make light of them. As a fan of comedy I search for the genuine comics, the comics that just dont give a fuck and get in your face to make you laugh at subjects you only laugh at behind closed doors.
So the next time you watch any comedians, listen to their set and see how much of it is genuine and how much of it is generic.
